Here are some SPOILERy details on Neil Patrick Harris’s guest starring role on Glee from The Ausiello Files.  The article also confirms that NPH will indeed be acting in the episode that will be directed by Joss Whedon (Dr. Horrible reunion!). Read on at your own risk!

According to a Glee insider, NPH will play Bryan Adam (ha!), a high school glee club nemesis of Will’s (Matthew Morrison) who resurfaces as a board member at William McKinley.

“Flashback scenes will show Bryan picking up girls and getting all the cool solos,” reveals the source, “while Will sits off in the sidelines.”

The stage for a present-day rematch is set when Harris’ character announces his intent to cut the arts programs at the school. “Show choir ruined his life, made him feel he could be a star, but all he could do is book Carnival cruises,” explains the insider. “Now he wants vengeance.”

The episode — which I’m told features a climactic duet between Harris and Morrison — goes before the cameras next week and is slated to air during May sweeps.

E! Online’s Watch with Kristin brings us an update on the role that Neil Patrick Harris will be playing when he guest stars on Glee later this season.

This is what I’m hearing from Glee sources about Neil Patrick Harris‘ guest spot, which has been rumored for weeks but is now very much a done deal. In fact, as I type this to you, the script for Neil’s awesome episode is being written—yee!—and one Fox insider tells me: “The fans will love it.” So what will Neil play? Here’s what I’m hearing:

Hold on to your track pants, Sue Sylvester! ‘Cause one solid Glee insider tells me that Neil is playing a character who is “really funny and really mean.” I’m told he will be “much more of the Dr. Horrible variety than Doogie Howser, M.D.”

So it seems Glee‘s writers are smartly honing in on their comedy sweet spot: deliciously devious characters who can deliver those breathtaking LOL one-line zingers. (See: Jane Lynch, and now Molly Shannon, who is rumored to be playing an enemy to Sue.)

So where does Neil’s guest spot now stand? “When the news first broke that Neil was coming on,” one Fox insider says, “it really wasn’t happening at that point and nothing was written. But things changed fast, as they do.”

That said, we’ll know more details when the ink on Neil’s ep has dried. But the good news is that the ink has definitely dried on his contract, and we’ll get the great flavors of NPH and Glee together in very late spring.

What Joss Whedon has to say about his Glee involvement

Watch with Kristen caught up with Joss Whedon to discuss, among other things, his upcoming guest directing gig on Glee, and the possibility of working with Neil Patrick Harris on the show.

But what about reports that Joss and NPH could reunite on Glee? As you know, Joss Whedon is set to direct an episode of Fox’s hit musical series later this season, and rumor has it that show producers want Harris to guest star in that very episode. Is that really happening?

“That’s something that’s trying to be worked out, but I haven’t heard whether or not that’s going to take place. I hope so, that’d be great, [but] I don’t know anything about it. I’m just a director on hire for that,” Joss says about his plans for helming an episode of Glee this March. “I’m a huge fan, [so] I’m going to show up and hopefully put the cameras somewhere useful.”

Believe it or not, Joss is such a big fan of the musical goodness, his main goal is to keep his cool while working on the series.

“I’m going to try to not stalk anyone. That’s going to be my big ambition,” he jokes. “I practiced on Jamie Bamber, and I didn’t stalk him for eight days on that episode of Dollhouse. I think I can rock it. I think I’ll be OK.”

So there is a chance they will be working on the same episode. Even better!
